A geodesic domes unique shape make it one of the strongest, most adaptable structures possible.

Benefits of a Dome

From sun room to botanical research unit...

Solardomes have been exported as far a field as: Northern Canada, where they withstand enormous snow loading; the Falkland Islands, which withstand continuous high pressure wind, snow and ice. Domes are in New Zealand, Australia, United States, Norway, France, Switzerland, Israel, Spain and Denmark.

Solardomes' unique design offers a number of benefits over more traditional greenhouses or freestanding buildings:

  • Wind & storm resistant
The geodesic shape of the dome makes it the strongest and most robust design to withstand the heaviest wind, or lying snow conditions. The stronger the wind blows the more the Solardome holds to the ground even over 100mph. No Glazed structure is as strong or as stable.
  • Better ventilation and airflow
The ventilation of the Solardome with the inclusion of the base, middle and roof level vents means that as the air heats up in the dome, it acts like a chimney allowing excellent air flow even in warm, still weather conditions.
  • More uniform temperature
Because of better airflow inside the dome, the temperature is more
uniform than in a conventional shaped room. No hot and cold spots. When the windows are open the dome never gets more than 5-8 degrees hotter than outside.
  • Excellent air distribution
The multi-sided shape does not allow for areas of still or stagnant air with no ridges and corners to harbour germs.
  • Cheaper to heat
The air volume in the dome is much smaller than a traditional room, therefore it takes substantially less heat to keep it warm in the winter, saving you on average 40%.
  • Maintenance free
Best quality non-corrosive materials means no regular maintenance needed. Due to the design, wind damage like cracked and broken panes of glass rarely occur.
  • Maximum Solar Gain
giving your plants the best possible growing environment because they receive the maximum available transmission of radiant energy. There are always two panes of glass directly at right angles to the sun's solar rays at all times of the day and at all seasons of the year regardless of the angle of the sun in the sky or the orientation of your building. • Maximum light
97% of the light transfers into the dome because of the slim but strong frame and the optically clear 4mm float window glass.
  • Designed for Self Assembly
saving you money, or if you prefer we can build it for you with our experienced fitters.
  • Extensive Foundations are not required
Domes will sit on a patio, decking or any other hard level base.

Generally no planning permission required up to & including the Solardome 3B (6.11m, 20ft dome).
