Mr John Hodge, Bristol
The Solardome® POD stood out as the ideal luxury greenhouse and fitting memorial for a garden enthusiast in Bristol.
John Hodge, a member of the National Garden Scheme, was seeking a unique, eye-catching and low maintenance glasshouse to grow a plant range for all seasons.
John has always enjoyed making beautiful garden arrangements, and decided the POD would provide the right conditions to add even more colour to his plot – as well as a striking focal point.
John had long admired the quality of the Solardome® glasshouse range – and the additional growing space it would offer – but after the passing of his wife, Ann, he decided to make his dream a reality.
I am very happy with the service I received from Solardome
“It’s therapeutic to come out to the dome and enjoy a pastime that I shared with my wife,” said John.
“My dome allows me to grow and nurture plants that wouldn’t normally thrive in the west of England. I have been growing large specimen cacti and succulents, which is a hobby of mine,” he added.

John’s garden belongs to the National Garden Scheme, which gives horticulturalists exclusive access to over 3,500 exceptional private grounds in England and Wales, so he can show off his Solardome® POD and charming surroundings to fellow members. The scheme raises large sums of money for nursing and health charities through admissions and refreshments.
John loves showing off his Solardome® POD and charming surroundings to fellow members, and estimates that 500 people have already visited his garden.
“The scheme gives me the chance to enjoy the dome’s unique ambience with people who share my passion for gardening, which is very rewarding,” said John.
“I am very satisfied with the service I received from Solardome who have helped make it all possible,” he added.
Following the build in April 2018, John set about making the dome his own immediately – and the results were impressive.
“We were thrilled to learn that in just over two months, John had fully landscaped the dome area and decorated it with vibrant flowers and trellises, which blend naturally with the green framework,” said Solardome’s Operations Manager Gary Mitchell.
The geodesic dome, an outstanding example of how Solardome® glasshouses can thrive in an urban setting, continues to receive plenty of care and attention from John.
