The most advanced glasshouse under the sun

SOLARDOME® glasshouses are versatile research units and are used in many Universities across Britain. There are several domes at the University of Lancaster's, Centre for Environmental Studies where they are being used as isolation chambers for comparative environmental studies.

The University of Bangor's, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology is using several SOLARDOME® glasshouses as part of a climate change research facility which is funded by the NERC. For more than 20 years they have been instrumental in studying the effects of gaseous pollutants on plants. Most of the glass domes there are in a closed facility where gas entry into the dome is computer controlled.

SOLARDOME® glasshouses are also being used at the DEFRA headquarters where they are used as isolation chambers for comparative research on insects.

The Centre for Alternative Technology in mid Wales uses its SOLARDOME® glasshouse as a thought provoking structure, demonstrating the most efficient use of structural materials.

SOLARDOME® glasshouses also make ideal support structures for Astro-physical observations. Our geodesic domes are used as both open and closed environments depending on the nature of the studies.
