Our Happy School Customers
Here are just a few of the positive responses that we have received from our satisfied educational customers. If you would like to see a dome in a school environment please contact us with your location. “We all love our dome. We have held a flower show, where all the children planted flowers, and a market the following year where all the children planted vegetables. It has been very well used.” Principal Teacher, Catriona Brown, Battlefield Primary School, Glasgow “I am writing to tell you how pleased we are with the Solardome. Staff and students returned to school to find the impressive building in situ. It is already a hot topic of conversation!” Mike Jones, Bursar, the Kimberley School, Nottingham “By creating a unique, outdoor learning environment for our students we can engage them in a much more creative and hands-on way and enhance the teaching of a whole range of subjects.” Chris Elford, Art Coordinator, Stormont House School, Hackney “We believe that it is very important for the children to be excited about learning science…The children love to use the moonbase, and it has fired their enthusiasm for science. Standards achieved at KS2 Sats have improved and prospective parents are totally amazed when they come to visit the school and we are now significantly oversubscribed.” Head Teacher, Linda Davies, Neston Primary School “Our SOLARDOME® glasshouse created an instant ‘wow’ factor amongst the children, parents, staff and visitors. It provides everything we need in one space and represents our commitment to being a ‘green’ school.” Head Teacher, Angela Stanton, Alfreton Nursery School, Derby “The dome is as much of an integral part of the site today as it was when we bought it in 2005 and has huge appeal. As well as being a hub for the local community, it’s an important place to teach pupils across any area of the curriculum, with a strong emphasis on recycling and sustainability in Humanities and Citizenship, and growth projects as part of Science. It makes a huge impact on the site and everyone enjoys the unique atmosphere inside. Even the local nursery school children have been over to use it and look at the chickens which live outside!” Richard Davison, Senior Tutor at the City Academy, Bristol “The SOLARDOME® glasshouses enable us to grow plants in long-term, large-scale experiments under natural light and daily or seasonal patterns. At the same time, we are able to control the composition of the atmosphere inside the domes. This makes them a much more realistic alternative to highly controlled, small scale laboratory experiments. They have been used to investigate the effects of various air pollutants on plant health, and more recently the effects of rising atmospheric CO2 concentrations on plant growth and soil carbon storage.” Dr James Heath, Research Associate from Lancaster University “I recognised the SOLARDOME® glasshouse as somewhere our children could go to be inspired by the 360-degree panoramic view where they could draw, write, sing and – for some of our older pupils – even stargaze and watch the sunrise,” Mr Robinson, Head Teacher, Michael School Isle of Man. “The students enjoy the enhanced lessons we carry out in the SOLARDOME® glasshouse as it gives them the opportunity to get outside and understand the biology of plants. We are thrilled with it as an excellent teaching aid and because of how well it fits in with our commitment to the community, hands-on teaching and eco policy.” Alan Gilbert, The Petchey Academy “We were inspired by the learning potential of the SOLARDOME® glasshouse and its ability to recreate our very own exotic biome experience, complete with a large palm tree, and banana and bird of paradise plants. We have developed learning objectives based on the curriculum for our work in the SOLARDOME® glasshouse and have already welcomed local head teachers inspired to recreate similar outdoor projects in their own schools.” Head Teacher, Terry Quinton, Desmond Anderson Primary School, Crawley. “We’ve really been able to maximise our outdoor learning potential by combining our growing activities with the flexibility of having an additional outdoor space in which to teach a host of subjects. The Solardome® glasshouse has had a real impact on the confidence and self esteem of some of the pupils because of the speech and language development activities the Solardome® glasshouse lends itself to. Our pupils love being out there.” Head Teacher, Gerrard Rothwell, Lyndon Green Primary School, Birmingham “The Science and Engineering Club’s project has already proved to be a catalyst for other work within the school. The construction of the raised beds we installed in the dome was a great learning opportunity in itself. Club members created a brief and a budget for the work and contracted fellow pupils to construct them for their ‘design and make’ project as part of their Design & Technology course work.” Food Technology students have successfully grown salad crops and are considering upscaling their efforts and supplying produce to the school canteen.” Jenny Ellis Davies, Science Teacher, Newquay Tretherras School, Cornwall. http://www.teachers.tv/videos/extended-schools-science-and-engineering-clubs-newquay |
