Visitor attractions and facilities

Many commercial organizations choose a SOLARDOME® glasshouse to add an extra dimension to their customer attractions or facilities.

Please see some examples below to give you inspiration of how you could use a glass dome to enhance your park, botanical gardens, accommodation or any other visitor attraction.

Conservation project
We are supporting Butterfly World Project in its vision to create the biggest dedicated butterfly attraction in the world.

The £27m project, based on a 27-acre site in St Albans, Hertfordshire, is set to become a focus for conservation issues and cutting-edge scientific research and will be a valuable educational experience for schools, community groups and families.

We are providing a SOLARDOME® glasshouse Vega (school dome) which will be known as 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' SOLARDOME® glasshouse outdoor classroom and is located in the British Butterfly Garden. Butterfly World also features 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' edible garden, based on Eric Carle's multi-award winning book.

Centre for Alternative Technology
We also have a dome at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales which offers solutions to some of the most serious challenges facing our planet and the human race. Here, our dome is used as a thought provoking structure to demonstrate the most efficient use of structural materials.

Garden Centre
We have a glass dome at the 30,000 acre Attadale Estate on the North West of Scotland which is used to house their tender fern collection.

Art Gallery & Museum
We supplied a SOLARDOME Haven for the 'Det Gylne Hus' (The Golden House); a museum, gallery and coffee house run by artists Arthur Adamson and Bjorg Bjoberg. Positioned on the roof of the building and set against the stunning backdrop of the Norwegian Fjords, the affectionately named 'Crystal Dome', enables visitors to sit and admire the surrounding views and adds an artistic element to the building, in keeping with the gallery itself.

Visitor Accommodation
Additionally, the owners of the Skyewalker Hostel on the Isle of Skye are keen musicians and use their Retreat 6.11m glass dome as an outdoor music room in which to entertain guests under the stars. We have also provided a SOLARDOME® glasshouse to Dairy Cottage, a thatched cottage providing luxury accommodation in the New Forest National Parks conservation area. Featured on the Channel 4 TV series 'Grand Designs', the owners were attracted to the beauty and versatility of the SOLARDOME® glasshouse which they use as an all-year-round greenhouse, outdoor room and yoga retreat.
