Lady Macpherson, Inverness

Keen garden-goer finds the ideal glasshouse for the Scottish Highlands.

Lady Cathy Macpherson was looking to add a structure to make the most of her picturesque garden that could stand up to testing weather conditions.

As well as being strong, it would need to provide a stylish hideaway for relaxing, entertaining, and tending to her plants.

The perfect fit

Inside POD domeAs part of plans to improve her courtyard area, Cathy needed a versatile solution that would allow her to admire the stunning landscape on her doorstep, and – after many products came up short – was delighted to discover Solardome® geodesic domes.

She found that the Solardome® glasshouse range was more than capable of protecting her and her plants from the elements, and decided that the Solardome® POD, at 3.6m in diameter, ticked all the boxes.

“I love my dome. It’s the perfect size for me and my family,” said Cathy.

Scenic splendour

Once the dome was assembled – and sitting proudly at the top of her garden – Lady Cathy knew she had made the right choice.

“The POD provides an outdoor venue, free of prevailing winds, to enjoy my beautiful views across the River Findhorn,” Cathy enthused.

“With binoculars always at hand, it’s the best place to birdwatch, too, which is fabulous,” she added.

And with the prospect of hosting larger gatherings in 2021 and beyond, even better days with the dome lie in store for Cathy.

“I look forward to spending many days in the POD with my family, enjoying tea, coffee and even the odd bottle of wine,” she exclaimed.

Glorious garden project

“I have lots of hanging baskets and tubs, some of which I can store in the dome through the winter, like my geraniums which I’ve kept going for several years,” said Cathy.

“And then, when spring arrives, I plan to use it as a nursery,” she added.

Furthermore, Cathy was impressed by the pain-free process that the Solardome team delivered.

“I chose Solardome’s ship out option and found a local builder to install the dome for me. It made things simple from beginning to end,” she said.
